Celebrating Volunteers Week – 2 to 8 June 2025
This Volunteers’ Week WRCC is celebrating all the hard work that volunteers across Warwickshire do for their local communities.
According to our National body, Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) there are over 10,000 village halls and community centres that serve their communities in the UK, over 400 of which are within Warwickshire. Without the contributions of an army of volunteers these community assets would not exist. These venues provide a safe, inclusive and warm space for members of their community to attend and help tackle social isolation, loneliness and in more recent times, fuel poverty related issues.
The WRCC Warm Hubs team supports the volunteers who run the county’s ‘Warm Hubs,’ many of which are hosted in village halls and other community buildings by offering grants (funded through Cadent) to cover overheads of the Warm Hubs, providing access to training, resources, information, signposting and advice. They also provide practical tips and information on saving energy costs and staying warm and safe at home.
Do you have time to spare? If so, WRCC is encouraging you to use Volunteers Week to look at the many ways in which you could volunteer in a Warm Hub; from serving teas and coffees, baking cakes, washing up, helping with setting up and clearing away for events, designing publicity, managing a Facebook page/social media, writing articles about what’s on in the venue, helping with bookings, administration and accounts, maintenance and gardening… amongst many other practical activities which would benefit the network.
Your knowledge and ideas, work/life experiences are invaluable! And for all Warm Hub volunteers just being a friendly face to provide a welcome makes a huge difference.
Hubs are always ready to welcome new volunteers, so if you should have an hour or two spare, take a look on our Network Map to find a Warm Hub or Community Hub near you where you can offer your support. You can also contact the Warm Hubs team by email: warmhubs@wrccrural.org.uk
You will be amazed how rewarding volunteering can be, giving time to your community and helping those in need. Sometimes a Warm Hub is the only time a person gets out of the house and mixes in a sociable environment and you could help facilitate that.
If your Hub requires additional volunteers, contact us at warmhubs@wrccrural.org.uk or if the volunteers are for your wider village hall work then contact Halls Together who can also give support and advice in running community buildings.
We also work in partnership with WCAVA who may be able to provide additional support if required.
