Rural Housing Week – increasing numbers of people in private rent

Over the last decade, there was an increase in the number and proportion of people aged 45-54 living in the private rented sector, from 11% in 2010-11 to 16% in 2020-21. Over the same period there was a decrease in the proportion of owner occupiers aged 45-54 from 74% to 65%.

There was also an increase in the number and proportion of people aged 55-64 living in the private rented sector, from 6% in 2010-11 to 11% in 2020-21. Over the same period there was a corresponding decrease in the proportion of owner occupiers aged 55-64 from 79% to 70%.
